"Story of the Day" by Erik's Teacher

Erik likes his teachers a lot, both Ms. Melanie and Mrs. Sabrina (but we think especially with Mrs. Sabrina) at his pre-school/day care. So when Mummy did pick-up on Friday, Sabrina was super-excited to tell Mummy the "Story of the Day" that filled the ENTIRE back of Erik's daily report paper!!

Here it goes....Story of the Day

"Today I (Sabrina) had a Jamba Juice and once we were outside Erik started asking me 'What is it' and 'What pictures were on the outside?'. Then Erik thought it would be fun to help me drink it [by holding the Jamba Juice drink for Sabrina and letting her sip it, that is!].

Well, after a few sips, I had to go across the playground to help another child and Erik wanted to help some more :o). So Erik decided to bring the smoothie to me and opps! It fell.

Erik looked so forelorn and upset when he saw the 'broken' smoothie on the ground. Poor guy! Don't worry I told [him] it was ok and he came & sat in my lap and gave me kisses."

While walking down with Mrs. Sabrina and Mummy to go home, Erik stopped Mummy midway and said "Jamba Juice...Mrs. Sabrina...new one". Yes, Erik remembered what happened earlier in the day and requesting Mummy to get his teacher a new Jamba Juice because he felt so bad.

Toddler Milestones
It is really nice to know Erik is hitting his toddler milestones!
  • Erik cares about his teachers (and friends too) - by keeping his teacher hydrated.

  • He is becoming more independent and want to help others - by bringing the drink to his teacher.

  • Erik was empathetic and sad about the spill - by giving lots of attention to his teacher to make her feel better.

  • More and more every day, Erik is just growing up so fast and into a well-rounded boy!!

    Moon Festival

Celebrating the moon festival is a tradition of Grandma Katy and Daddy's. In Bhutan, lots and lots of homemade dishes will be made. Homemade moon cakes will be served. Lots of wonderful family gatherings, all because of the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival. This year was no different. Grandma Katy made special dishes and homemade moon cakes to past on a lovely tradition to Erik and of course, Mummy & Daddy too!!

We first made our offerings to the moon before dinner with Grandma Katy's homemade BBQ pork, white rice, and rice wine. Where we explained to Erik that it is like the moon having a birthday party!! He was quite into it! Daddy & he did their duty in respecting the moon. Erik even grabbed a slice of the BBQ Pork and chowing it away! Delicious!

After that, we chowed down some delicous food!! Uncle Van was invited as well into the festivities! We ate some yummy pork ribs, stuffed steamed seafood tofu, "rocket soup" where Grandma Katy basically made an extravagant version of egg-drop soup with tofu which Erik LOVED, and stir-fry veggies with shrimp. Mmmm! Mmm! What a wonderful family meal! Erik behaved so well and gave Grandma Katy the ultimate compliment by asking for another bowl of "Rocket Soup", which Erik got the name from one of the Little Einsteins episodes! HAHA!

From the stuffed dinner we had, we went out for a quick evening stroll to burn of at least "some" calories. A poor attempt, we know it, but at least we did try! Erik excitedly finds the moon and points high in the sky "Moon Mommy! Moon!".

After we come back from the stroll, it was another round of evening offerings to the Moon. Yep, we have to do it twice for the Moon Festival. This time, it was "dessert" portion, we offered up homemade moon cakes, fruits (apples, peaches, and grapes), plus green tea. Erik even sang "Happy Birthday" to the moon and clapped his hands! LOL! He enjoyed the tradition and loved eating the moon cakes! Another round of compliment to Grandma Katy!

For Daddy & Mummy, we were really there just for the food. HEE HEE! Happy Moon Festival!!

    Chinese Cultural Fair

We celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as Moon Festival) today by attending the local Chinese Cultural Fair. Mummy was excited to show Erik the fair since it was located where Mummy's childhood location, near her Chinese School!! YAY! Plus Grandma Katy was curious to see what is the local "Chinatown Mall" look like, which really is really less than one block of distance. Daddy & Mummy invited Uncle Van as well to come along for a lovely mid-morning event.

There, we visited the Sun Yat Sen Memorial where a "Children's Show" was about to be presented. Mummy have been to this memorial many many times before as a child and always thought it was...well....BORING?! However, in the recent years, after talking to Mummy's Aunt Jeanne, she found out that her Grandpa, whom Mummy never knew, actually served as one of the secretararies to Dr. Sun Yat Sen in China looong looong time ago. This time around, walking into the Memorial was a little different, and a bit of nostalgia was in the air when trying to connect to the past.

The author of "Adventures of the Treasure Fleet", Ann Martin Bowler was there to do a special reading. She needed some participation from the audience and our little Erik was selected to be the "Prince of Siam". Erik's Grand Uncle Kenny would be proud, as Siam was known as ancient Thailand where his Grand Uncle was originally born and raised!! Erik's job as the "Prince of Siam" was to hit a GONG when the author points. He patiently waited while the author did her special reading and hit the gong all by himself, at first, and then with some help from Mummy too! Grandma Katy, Daddy, and Uncle Van, waited patiently as well for Erik to serve as their prince. HAHA!

Afterwards, we visited the various vendor booths in the Chinatown Mall Culture Fair and made a paper lantern! Erik held his scissors very nicely and cut his way to a lovely pink lantern!! So cute! While Daddy was stopped by a Chinese lady asking "Are you the professional photographer for the event?" because Daddy had his huge camera lens but nope he was not serving as the event photographer for today, just a day out with his son! Then we went over to the nearby mall and had a yummy lunch to round out our activities before nap time.
