SOCCER MOM & DAD

Before I start my rambling – I thought I might write a description of what www.babychhimi.com site is all about. Some may call it a mission statement of sorts. (This is because of some dumb ass comments replies from my brother we have been receiving.) The underlying reason for this site existence is to document the trials and errors of our (Tabitha and my) journey through parenthood. In a nut shell this is our journal about our adventures of becoming first time parents.

Moving on yesterday while I was wasting my day at the Sacramento Court House – where I was on the jury selection list (trust me – If I got picked I was going to fry that bastard). My darling wife was doing – what she does best – shop for the best darn deal on the internet for a mini van – (See Wife Post Below) Well last night at about 9 – 10 pm we purchased a Toyota Sienna LE. I guess this is another one of our mini-purchases (STEPS) into parenthood.

So soccer dads and soccer moms watch out ‘cuz here comes the CHHIMI’s.

Baby Mobile

posted by Daddy
Tired --- sooooo tired-- Just became a Soccer Dad and I am proud of it. Bought ourselves a van. :D More later it's late.

Well, instead of the cool and sleek looking Batman mobile, we are shopping for a Baby Mobile AKA Family Van! We've been looking for the past couple months and been talking about it ever since we've found out that we're expecting. I have NO issue of being a soccer mom and Chhimi has NO issue on being a soccer dad. In fact, I think we've been looking forward to this for a very long time...to start a family of our own that is.

So Baby Mobile....we're a loyal Toyota family. Don't really know why except Chhimi really likes it and I like the durability of it compared to the "American" brands like Ford, Chrysler, etc. So we're looking into the Toyota Sienna LE (8-passenger) van. We also compared it with another import, the Honda Odessey and it definitely was a very close call given the extra .2 extra HP that the Honda gives and the Lazy Susan hidden tray, and lots of nice little power features like double powered sliding doors. But we're going to stick with the Toyota Sienna since it was more affordable (didn't want the leather seats in the Honda EX-L, figured we can just lots of PLASTIC around the baby seat!! LOL!) and Chhimi felt he was more comfortable with in their carseats and the middle carseat can inch closer to the front seats for easy baby access! :-) hee hee

In fact, we're going to the dealership this evening to see if we like the ones they have in stock and if so... Baby Mobile will be ours...after financing. Although I really hate the fact that we will have a car payment but both of our cars are growing old and we definitely need something reliable for the growing years of Baby Chhimi.

Crouching Tiger Hidden What?

Last night at the Lamaze class I was terrified. So much information about the 2nd and 3rd Stages of labor – never imagined a day or class like this maybe my sex education class at CSUS comes in at second place but that’s another story. While growing up back in Bhutan and India most male perception of child labor are the dad’s pacing back and forth outside an emergency type room and moments later you hear a piercing cry and the nurse comes out and hands the baby to the dad or just tells him the good news. My how fake is that made for movie crap. I can safely say that I probably know more about child birth than my dad or FIL or the combined male Chhimi Clan members.

With words and terms like “Rim of FIRE” (why the hell would one call this the RIM of Fire & where the hell is Gandalf) that almost made my Darling Wife cry – I felt that I had done a terrible thing to her. Can’t we just transport our baby out of there like those Star Trek show. Some other scary words being thrown around were episiotomy, forceps and vacuums – if you see the forceps you would understand my fear – there were 2 GIANT METALIC “Salad Tossers”. Well and then there was a video – I think they should show this video to all high school kids – it would probably make them think twice before going behind that bush. All I can say to you folks thinking about your future – be there and support your wife/girlfriend a 101% and more. And also when your mom wants you to do something for her and throws a guilt trip at you by saying my child labor was 24 hours with you – she is not kidding and whatever you are doing for her is not as bad as what she went through giving birth to your big head. And buy her something nice for mother’s day.

We have also been learning some cool new breathing techniques to be used during labor. There is the “heee heee heee and hooo hooo hooo” and myriads of other breathing and massage techniques let hope I don’t forget any of these. Too all you single male folks (friends) out there – when you get to the point of where I am at just remember this – give and express your support to the woman who is bearing your child. I think I am just rambling so I will stop – it’s a lot to absorb but I would NOT give this experience up for anything.

We Are Winners!

posted by Mommy

Chhimi and I attended the local Babies R' Us seminar on Car Seat this evening. We really are confused about car seats and what to buy and what not to buy. So here is what we learned:

  • Infant Car Seat holds between 22lbs to 30lbs (depending on style)

  • Child must be rear-facing until 1 year old (required by law)

  • Toddler Seats also vary in style and some can become a booster seat too

  • 5 point harness is much safer compared to 3 point harness

  • Britax Car Seats are much safer because they are tested in European standards at higher speed limits

  • We will be spending A LOT of $$ in car seats for the next 6 years!

However, the upside for the evening is that we won the evening raffle and received a little Graco Baby Travel Gift Pack :-) Yay! I always like winning something!

It comes with 5 items including roller shade, car seat protector, infant head support, infant harness covers, and a cute orange elephant car seat mobile. It is so cute!

Finally Got The Crib

posted by Mommy
After all the mishaps for us in the last week and lasting this week, Chhimi and I finally got our baby's first bed. We attended a "Breast Pump" class at the local Babies R' Us and picked up our crib at the end of the class since our order was in. Our good friend came by and carted it away in his van.

After much assembly from Daddy-to-be and our friend, the crib looks great! Its a little high for my height but hey...nothing a little step stool won't fix :-) hahaha! Now we just need the mattress. (Hint Hint: Visit our baby's registries!)

House GOT BROKEN Into

We are all fine (including the “Bun”) – but our house got broken into last Monday (9th), so that’s why the lack of post. Read More about the Break In (*WARNING: Mature Language. Well just so damn pissed – all the repairs, deductible – not having my camera means that a few less things I can shower my baby with. We are major pissed. But please use the above link to read about it. This is our baby’s blog and we want to keep it as positive and as fun as we can.

We have started – taking our classes and they are a blast to go too. Actually some of the information and video that we have taken in has freaked me out. More Like Scared Shitless. I am so proud of my darling wife going through this. If it were me I would be crying like a little girl. GO HONEY BUNCH!!!! I just hope I can stay conscious during the labor – as I faint at the sight of Blood. (Just me being a Chicken) The nursery is beautiful and too CUTE!!! Tonight we get our CRIB from the store. More to come Later.

Crib Disappointment

posted by Mommy

We set out early today to purchase Baby Chhimi's crib at Babies R Us. Daddy-to-be really wanted to buy the crib for his son-to-be so we enlisted our dear friend's help with his van. We were at first fortunate enough that they had the crib in stock and was all happy to go home and to begin assembly.

As we were doing the assembly, Chhimi found a big crack on the headboard instead :-(. Darn it! That means we had to dis-assemble all the pieces and then bring it back to the store again. Sigh! It was a huge disappointment for both of us!

We ended up placing an order for the crib instead. Sigh! Now we'll just have to wait 7 - 14 business days to do this all over again!

Baby Nursery: Painting Is Done!

posted by Mommy

Well, it was way past 1:00am but Chhimi and I couldn't just let it sleep without seeing our final product. So we struggled to stay up and peel away all the taping just so we can satisfy our curiousity of our hardwork...well actually Chhimi's hardwork. I was just so proud of my hubby for doing all the painting himself and its his 2nd time painting!! But I must say, we are definitely a pair of "perfectionists" because we think and overthink on every single detail that goes into home projects!

Anyways, the room looks just adorable and just as we planned it! It amazes us that our imaginations can become a reality with a couple gallons of paint from Home Depot! Early this morning, we went in there to take a peek to see how it is in natural light and it looked even more welcoming!

Yep, we can't wait until we have our "bundle of joy" in our lives!! We'll post up the nursery BEFORE and AFTER pictures once we get some furniture and do the final touches in it! Until Then, we'll be "Happy Growing"!

Painting Our Nursery

posted by Mommy

Well this weekend, despite the lovely weather outside, we've decided to get started on our nursery. :-) I woke up bright and early to get a start on the taping for Chhimi. Afterwards, we headed over to home depot to pick our color palettes and it was all up to Chhimi to do the painting since pregnant woman shouldn't be breathing paint fumes (its bad for baby!). So far, we're loving the color! It's sooo nice...but I guess compared to our dull white, anything is nice! hehehe. Can't wait to put some baby furniture in there!!

We'll post some pictures up AFTER everything is all done, probably in March 2006!

A "mastercard" moment

posted by Daddy

  • $19.99 + Tax: Bebe Sound Monitoring System

  • 10 minutes of reading instructions

  • ...ability to listen to my wife's bowel movements: PRICELESS

Intrusive Parents: That's Who We Are

posted by Mommy

We went out to Target after dinner to pick up BeBeSounds fetal hearbeat monitor system since we're on our 27th week of pregnancy now. Many web sites says that the baby heartbeat is getting stronger and can probably be picked up using a monitor.

Well, we laid down and tried to listen but here were some strange noise we heard instead:

  • static

  • gurgle gurgle

  • Sci-Fi engine sound: which later turned out to be an airplane passing our house! LOL!

  • Tabitha burping: Oopsie!!

Then our son-to-be got tired of having the monitor pressed against his home started pushing back. He pushed right at the monitor and almost knocked it off of my hand. So I moved to another spot, and he found the spot and again pushed back. I moved to another area and he pused back again. Sigh! I guess at least he drawing his privacy boundaries at such a young age already!

Of course, all this was happening while Daddy-to-be fell asleep listening to static and my stomach noise!

Guess we'll have to try it out again later!

Growing Belly

posted by Mommy

Well, I am definitely gaining weight now being 6.5 months pregnant! Growing Belly hopefully means happy baby inside! Here's a little picture of us taken on New Year's Eve where we enjoyed a nice afternoon stroll around the trails to get some fresh air and exercise. Now I'm just hoping that I won't gain too more weight! :-) hee hee
