Breastfeeding 101

posted by Mommy

We attended our first of two breastfeeding classes this evening. It was a lot of information from three popular way to hold or cradle the baby to what is a proper latch on!

DID YOU KNOW:

  • Newborns need to feed every 1.5 to 3 hours increments

  • You should wake up the baby for a feeding

  • Babies goes through at least 8 - 12 diapers per day

We learned today our roles as parents and as food providers. I will be the provider of the milk (um...for obvious reasons!) and Chhimi will be the ultimate diaper changer and burper! Not sure who has the more difficult job! We shall see when Baby Chhimi arrives!

Yes, ManYee, you will be your baby's MAIN food provider at least for the first 5 months!!! Man, you guys are so serious about parenting already! I didn't go to any class before I gave birth to Matthew...Do you have so many sick days and personal days to take? I can barely take any sick or personal days before I gave birth. I was saving all the days so I can have 9 weeks off from work. Oh yeah, you will need to feed the baby at night for every 2 hours and it depends on how much your baby needs. My brother's first baby needed to be fed at every hour! My sister-in-law was exhausted big time! Oh another thing is your milk will not come until the 3rd or 4th day after the delivery. But you still need to let your baby suck on your nipples so he can learn the sucking and you learn the holding position at the same time. It will be painful in the first couple days. Some people's nipples even bleed by baby's sucking. Anyway, if you ever need any tips from me, IM or email me any time. Good luck!
